181. Blast from the Past – The day I “lost” my Brother

I don’t remember exactly when this happened.  Maybe this happened when I was around 7 years of age and my brother was 5.5 years of age. Over a period of time, only the incident remains in the mind, while the dates are forgotten 😊 !! We were living in Karol Bagh and two of my cousins were living near IIT Gate in Delhi.  All of us cousins used to meet only during some special occasions like festivals or other such occasions.  It happened during a weekend.  Me and my brother wanted to visit our cousins and play with them.  Our parents had some other work so they let us go to our cousin’s place on our own.  In those days it was safer to venture out alone without having to worry about being kidnapped (incidentally, the next year, in 1978 we had the famous Billa and Ranga case where they kidnapped 2 children and murdered them 😊 )!!  We had to catch 2 buses to go to my cousins’ place. Bus No 8 from Arya Samaj Road Bus stop to Super Bazar, Connaught Place.  Both the stops were the 1 st

Some interesting movie/documentary reviews … The Mauritanian – Based on the NY Times best-selling memoir "Guantánamo Diary" by Mohamedou Ould Slahi, this is the true story of Slahi's fight for freedom after being detained and imprisoned without charge by the U.S. Government for years. Alone and afraid, Slahi finds allies in defense attorney Nancy Hollander and her associate Teri Duncan who battle the U.S. government in a fight for justice that tests their commitment to the law and their client at every turn. Their controversial advocacy, along with evidence uncovered by a formidable military prosecutor, Lt. Colonel Stuart Couch, uncovers shocking truths and ultimately proves that the human spirit cannot be locked up.  Jodie Foster as Nance Hollander and Benedict Cumberbatch in a small role!! Assassins – Documentary on the killing of the North Korean leader’s murder.  Review from IMDB… The subject of this documentary is definitely one of those cases of truth being st

More web-series… Jakten pa en mordare – Based on a true story about real homicide investigations in the south of Sweden between 1989-2004.  6 episodes of 45 minutes each. Review from IMDB… Mikael Marcimain was praised for the miniseries Lasermannen (2005) and this is something similar - a captivating depiction of how the police after many years got a breakthrough in one of Sweden's largest murder investigations, the Helen case, thanks in part to the technical advances in the work with DNA. tracks, partly some diligent toil of some policemen. The series is firmly rooted in the Scanian soil and takes us on a gray, unpleasant journey fraught with pedophiles and murderers in the countryside. There is also a sense of humor and a lot of frustration in how an inefficient police organization sets up obstacles. Very exciting; Anders Beckman is superb as the angular head of investigation Per-Åke. Prime Suspect – Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison (Dame Helen Mirren) has been p

More web-series reviews…. Synopsis from Wikipedia… A wealthy Philadelphia couple Dorothy and Sean Turner experience a fracture in their marriage after the death of their thirteen-week-old son, Jericho. The couple undergoes transitory object therapy using a life-like reborn doll after Dorothy experiences a full psychotic break. The doll, which Dorothy believes is her real child, was the only thing that brought her out of a catatonic state following Jericho's death. Six weeks after the death they hire a young nanny, Leanne, to move in and take care of Jericho, the reborn doll, opening their home to a "mysterious force". While Sean deals with the grief on his own, he becomes deeply suspicious of Leanne. A good series filled with su
