109. Web-series reviews – 3

Continuing from the last blog… Four More Shots Please – The whole series is about 4 women who are friends.   Each of them has their own issues.   Every evening they will meet at a bar and have drinks and complain to each other about how the life is treating them badly.   Cursing is used liberally in the entire series.   I saw about 2 or 3 episodes with my wife and then we both stopped seeing it.   Nothing much in the series.   Apparently season 2 is in the works!! The synopsis being – The series chronicle around the lives of four unapologetically flawed women who have their own share of thick and thin of life yet empower each other. Damini Roy, the very successful journalist and start up founder wins four “fearless journalist” awards in a row despite the board posing hindrances for her but is never stable in her personal life and ends up losing Jeh, whom she truly loves because of some misunderstandings. Anjana Menon, a successful lawyer who constantly tries to get over her est

Continuing from the last blog… The Unlisted – I came across this in some magazine.   This is an Australian drama TV-series aimed at children and young teenagers.   The series follows the story of 14-year old twins who work with a group of underground vigilante kids to stop powerful governments from imposing global control over the world’s youth.   Strictly a one-time watch for the concept.   Each episode is of just 20-minute duration.   So, the serial really moves very fast.   The lead kids’ family is Indian and so you have Indian actors settled in Australia acting in the series.   Bosch – I had already mentioned about this series earlier.   I watched Seasons 4 and 5 couple of days back.   This is an American police procedural web-series.   Based on the books by Michael Connelly.   Sometimes 2-3 books are combined and made into one Season.   As interesting the books are, (I just finished his latest book, The Night Fire) the series too are very interesting.   The series is m

107. Web-series reviews – 1

Web-streaming is quite a rage these days, with so many serials/series coming out.   In the past 1-2 months I watched quite a few of them.   So, the next few blogs are going to be reviews of the series that I have watched.   In case you find it interesting, you can go ahead and watch the series!!   These series include both English and the Hindi ones.   Hopefully I will be finishing the Queen (on Jayalalitha) serial in Tamil too by that time!!   Let me start with the English ones first. Chernobyl – This was an excellent series that depicts the actual Chernobyl disaster and its aftermath.   The series is quite spectacular and it captures whatever happened during those and the subsequent days excellently.   The series also features what Gobachev’s government at that time did and the consequences.   The series is told in flashback and is covered in 5 episodes. The series also won an Emmy last year for Outstanding Limited Series.     It tells the stories of people who caused the disa

106. Amar Akbar Anthony – The zaniest movie of all times

There have been many movies in the Hindi film industry that have been madcaps like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Padosan, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron and others.   But the one that takes the cake was Amar Akbar Anthony. Made in 1977 by Manmohan Desai, it was one of the zaniest movies of all times. A person called Jackson went in to the park in Mumbai and killed himself, leaving his 3 children in the park.   Based on this news item, the story was developed by Manmohan Desai, where Pran goes with his 3 kids to a park and had to abandon them there.   As this was a Bollywood movie, the 3 children get adopted by Hindu, Muslim and Christian families!! The original name of Amitabh Bachchan in the movie was kept as Anthony Fernandes.   During the composition of the superhit song, it was felt that the word Fernandes was not coming properly while singing.   At that time, Pyarelal of Lakshmikant-Pyarelel duo, the music directors of the movie, suggested that they change Fernandes to Gonsalves.   With the
