109. Web-series reviews – 3
Continuing from the last blog…
Four More Shots Please
– The whole series is about 4 women who are friends. Each of them has their own issues. Every evening they will meet at a bar and
have drinks and complain to each other about how the life is treating them
badly. Cursing is used liberally in the
entire series. I saw about 2 or 3
episodes with my wife and then we both stopped seeing it. Nothing much in the series. Apparently season 2 is in the works!! The
synopsis being – The series chronicle around the lives of four unapologetically
flawed women who have their own share of thick and thin of life yet empower
each other. Damini Roy, the very successful journalist and start up founder
wins four “fearless journalist” awards in a row despite the board posing
hindrances for her but is never stable in her personal life and ends up losing
Jeh, whom she truly loves because of some misunderstandings. Anjana Menon, a
successful lawyer who constantly tries to get over her estranged husband’s budding
romance with Kavya and ends up getting jailed because of drinking and driving
while taking her sick daughter to the hospital. Umang Singh, a Punjabi PT
teacher from Ludhiana, and a bisexual constantly tries to recuperate from the pangs of
breakup she is given by her girlfriends. And last but not the least, Sidhi
Patel, a very bubbly 23-year old, tries to find out the true meaning of love
under the constant interference of her overcritical mother Sneha.
Made in Heaven –
A very well-made series. It is about the
marriage planning company – Made in Heaven.
There are two partners in the venture.
Each episode has a different marriage taking place and its issues. Parallelly the stories of the 2 partners also
move forward. As usual, both partners
have their own issues and we are shown how they have come up so far. Acting by the main leads are excellent. I am not mentioning any spoilers here. Worth a watch. Written by Zoya Akhtar and
Reema Kagti (Aamir Khan’s wife). The synopsis being – Made in Heaven portrays
today’s India as a potent blend of old and new where tradition jostles with
modern aspirations against the backdrop of Big Fat Indian Weddings juxtaposed
against the story of the two protagonists. It is a telling story about human nature and
greater social dynamics in Delhi.
Typewriter – A
decent horror series based on supernatural stuff. The series is set in Goa, and revolves around a
haunted house and a book that captures the imagination of a group of wannabe
ghost hunters. A decent series that was enjoyable. One-time watch. The synopsis being – The story follows a
group of school children who live in Bardez,
Goa. The inquisitive friends form a ghost club and decide to seek a ghost at an
old haunted villa in their neighborhood as their first mission. Their curiosity stems from an old story
involving an old man who died writing a novel called The Ghost of Sultanpore.
However, before the children are able to discover a ghost, a new family moves
in and the legend of the villa resurfaces in frightening mode. The story
revolves around the mystery behind the titular typewriter, which seems to
harbor a grudge against those who try to remove it from the house. It is further complicated by the narrative of
past occupants, with the story jumping between decades. Sudden deaths, past of Sultanpore and
unnatural powers are also storylines of the webseries. No brownie points for guessing that the
typewriter is the ghost’s house😊!!
Hello Mini – A
decent thriller series. While watching
the 3rd episode of the series, I noticed in the intro title scenes
that this was based on a book. When I
researched about the book, it turned out to be a trilogy😊 – “The Stranger Trilogy” – Marry Me, Stranger;
All Yours, Stranger and Forget Me Not, Stranger by Novoneel Chakraborty!! I thought let me first finish the series and
then I will head for the book😊. There are vast differences in the book and
the series, with some characters getting chopped in the series and some new
ones added. The book series was good but
ended on a slightly exaggerated note.
Season 1 depicted the first book.
And apparently there are 2 more seasons for the next 2 books!! The official synopsis for the first season
being – 22-year-old Rivanah shifts to Mumbai from Kolkata and notices that
someone is following and blackmailing her. This someone is voiceless, faceless,
nameless and is forcing her to ‘know her worth’. Even though he is stalking her
and making her miserable, she is drawn to the Stranger and soon realizes that
he is actually helping her. But everything comes at a cost, as the stranger’s
obsession with her and eventually hers with him leads her down a dangerous
path, affecting her life and the lives of all those around her.
