135. Childhood Reminisces – Eating habits & Other Close Relatives

Memories are something that stay with you forever.   When you sit down and try to remember your childhood, the memories come quick and fast.   Some of them are so ingrained that you feel happy when you think of them. During childhood, I would often go to kitchen to see what all could be had to eat.   Mostly they would be bournvita powder, sometimes with sugar too (put one spoon of bournvita in your mouth, then put one spoon of sugar and then eat them together 😊 ), malai from milk, curd with sugar, cooked vegetables, specially aalu or arbi, immediately after they are cooked, and before actually eating the lunch or dinner.   Outside of house, candy in the shape of a cigarette was also good and so was heated shakaragandhi (sweet potato).   There were several vendors who used to heat shakaragandhi, cut it, put masala on it and sell.   Those would be too good!   We used to pick “ber, jaamun” from trees and eat.   There was also candies which was priced at 1 paise for 1 candy.   There was

134. Childhood Reminisces – School Teachers – 2

Some more reminisces of my school teachers…. In the 8 th Standard, we had an English teacher, Mrs KJ.   Since I was also the monitor of the class and also did well in the exam, I was in the good books of her.   That day it was the last period and she announced a holiday the next day due to some incident or something like that.   The following day was a Friday and hence we would get 3 days off.   As soon as she walked out of the class, the entire boys section of the class (boys and girls used to sit separately; right side 2 columns were boys and left side 2 columns were girls) stood up and started hooting!   Since the girls were sitting down, I could see Mrs KJ pass by the window and her eyes caught my eyes.   I just sat down with a sheepish grin.   On Monday, when she came to the class, she asked all the boys to stand up on the bench for causing too much noise earlier.   She then asked me if I was also indulging in creating noise.   I said yes.   She told me to keep standing then.

133. Childhood Reminisces – School Teachers – 1

I studied in a school in Delhi from 6 th to 12 th standard.   There are many instances of humorous anecdotes involving the teachers that it brings smiles to my face even.   And I am sure that it will bring smiles to my other classmates too.   Hope that these anecdotes also make you laugh, to while away your time.   Even though these are amusing instances and some might seem to be belittling the teachers, but believe me, it is for spreading smiles only.   Without those teachers, I might not be in a position where I am now and these teachers have laid a solid foundation to my life.   And because of these instances, they are still vividly being remembered by me 😊 . This was in 6 th standard.   Mr S was a Maths teacher and I was considered his pet, as my Maths skills were exceptional at that time.   For some reasons, I don’t remember what, I did something in the class and the teacher asked me to go out and stand outside the class as a punishment 😊 .   This class had a door which w

132. Childhood Reminisces – Karol Bagh Memories – 3

More Karol Bagh memories… We used to play a lot of cricket during those days, and it was called gully cricket.   I used to play in a park near my house, on the small by-lanes where our house was located and also at the school.   I was an all-rounder 😊 !! In 8 th Standard, I was in A section (From 6 th to 12 th in this school, I was always in the A section 😊 ),   At that time it was general assumption that section A students were very studious, section B somewhat less studious and section C (being the last section) was the notorious one 😊 .   Some of the Section C students would look like they will be able to easily physically lift 2 students from section A!!   In the school ground, there was one place, which was the walkway from the gate to the school building, which was much sought out for playing cricket.   Since each sections’ free period was different, there was never a problem in playing in this patch of the ground.   Sometimes, one section will get a free period due to
