315. Alzheimer and Puzzle Solving

A couple of weeks before, I came across an article mentioning that if you are doing puzzles on a daily basis, you can delay the onset of Alzheimer.  I then thought I will write a blog on this with the puzzles that I do every day😊.  I googled and got this info from Forbes…

Puzzles, card games, chess and adult education classes can reduce the risk of developing dementia over the age of 70 by as much as 11%, a new study found, but participating in group activities and maintaining active social circles have little impact on late-in-life memory loss.

Adult literacy activities, learning new skills, taking classes and, to a lesser extent, crafting or artistry all contributed to a lower dementia risk in people over 70, a study published Friday by the American Medical Association journal JAMA Network Open found.

Active mental activities—crosswords, puzzles, games, cards or chess—and adult literacy, defined in the study as attending a class, writing or using a computer, provided the greatest benefits because they either are competitive in nature and require problem solving or require participants to process and store new information.

The benefits of challenging cognitive activities stayed the same even as other factors in participants' lives were different—like level of earlier education and socioeconomic status—according to the study by researchers at Australia’s Monash University.

When you are doing something nice and when you get news like these, it makes your day!  I do the following puzzles on a daily basis.  This keeps my brain working constantly😊.

Early in the morning, after I wake up, I do Wordle.  I started doing this during Covid times, when it was invented😊.  Last month, when my uncle Mr Varatharajan (Varadu Mama) was in Hyderabad, he mentioned to me about Quordle, which is 4-wordles-in-one.  Now I do Quordle also on a daily basis😊.  Here are some pictures…

1st picture is of the stats of my playing Wordle.  I have been playing Wordle for the past 686 days with 99% of the time solving it!  And I have solved it correctly for the past 131 days😊.   Next is the  screenshot of how Quordle looks like.  And the last on is my stats of playing Quordle.    I also play the Weekly challenge in the Quordle which comes on a weekly basis.

Once the newspaper comes in, I do the following puzzles😊!  In Deccan Chronicle, I do the following on a daily basis: -

In Times of India, I do the following puzzles on a daily basis…

And on Saturdays and Sundays, I do this also…

So, hopefully when I turn old, I might not get Alzheimer😊.  The above puzzles ensure that my brain is sharp and always ready to work😊!

Cheers till next time😊
