Mobland – Came in 2025. Power is up for grabs as two warring crime families clash in a battle that threatens to topple empires. In the crossfire stands Harry Da Souza, a street-smart 'fixer' who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.

A review from IMDB...

Paramount+'s MobLand is a hard-hitting crime drama that earns a perfect 10/10 for its razor-sharp writing, electric performances, and unrelenting tension. Set in the underworld of London's criminal elite, the show throws viewers into a brutal power struggle between two rival families - and never lets go.

What makes MobLand truly stand out is its ability to balance brutal realism with emotionally charged storytelling. The Harrigans, led by the cold and calculated Conrad Harrigan (played masterfully by Pierce Brosnan), go head-to-head with the volatile Stevenson clan, helmed by Richie Stevenson (Jeff Bell). Between them stands Harry de Souza (Brian Ferguson), a conflicted figure torn between ambition, loyalty, and survival.

The pacing is tight and relentless, with each episode ramping up the stakes. The writing doesn't waste a single line - every bit of dialogue serves to deepen the characters or twist the knife in the plot. There are no filler scenes here; MobLand respects its audience and dives headfirst into a morally complex world where the consequences of violence, betrayal, and ambition play out in chillingly realistic fashion.

Pierce Brosnan gives one of his best performances in years - a far cry from the suave persona he's known for. As Conrad, he radiates menace with every word and gesture. Helen Mirren brings equal weight as Maeve Harrigan, delivering a performance that is equal parts maternal and Machiavellian. The entire ensemble is stellar, with Brian Ferguson's portrayal of Harry adding an emotional anchor to the chaos around him.

Visually, the show captures the grim, cold aesthetic of London's criminal world perfectly. Every frame feels deliberate, every shot rich with mood and meaning. Combined with a haunting score and sharp editing, MobLand builds an atmosphere of constant tension that never loosens its grip.

But above all, it's the crime and suspense elements that shine the brightest. Each episode ends with a punch - a revelation, a death, or a betrayal that leaves viewers desperate for the next chapter. It's a rare series that combines emotional depth with such nerve-wracking intensity.

MobLand isn't just another gangster drama. It's layered, bold, and utterly addictive. For fans of crime thrillers who crave substance along with suspense, this series is a must-watch.

Final Verdict: 10/10 - A masterclass in crime storytelling, and one of the best thrillers of the year.

My Take – An excellent series.

Your Friends and Neighbors – Came in 2025. Andrew "Coop" Cooper is coming to terms with his divorce. He's also a hedge fund manager who's recently been fired in disgrace from his job. So to maintain his lifestyle, Coop resorts to stealing from the homes of his neighbors in the exceedingly affluent Westmont Village; only to discover that the secrets and affairs hidden behind those wealthy facades, might be more dangerous than he ever imagined.

Jonathan Tropper is mostly known among Iranian series lovers for Banshee-one of the best action TV shows ever, which still gets people talking with excitement. But fewer people know that he also created another martial arts action series called Warrior, inspired by Bruce Lee's legacy, and it's honestly just as thrilling.

In Your Friends & Neighbors, aside from a cast that overlaps with Banshee, you can feel similar storytelling vibes-especially in character development and narrative setup. We meet a character who, after going through a certain experience, can no longer "be himself." It's very reminiscent of Lucas Hood in Banshee. But this time, Tropper steps into a new, less familiar world-especially for someone known for gritty action.

Here, we follow the life of a charismatic man (played by the effortlessly charming Jon Hamm) who's facing financial ruin and turns to stealing from his wealthy friends and neighbors to survive. The tension of living a double life, assuming a new identity, and juggling parallel stories is deeply felt-again, very Banshee-like. Even the show's raw sex scenes and alluring female characters bring that familiar edge, though maybe not quite as intense, but still memorable.

In terms of theme and tone, the show is clearly about collapse-everything is on the verge of falling apart, as the opening credits suggest. But that collapse is wrapped in a blend of drama and dark humor, to the point where you sometimes forget just how tragic the story really is because of how sweetly it's being told.

Before I started this series, I thought The Studio was the best currently airing show. But now that I've reached episode seven, I can confidently say Your Friends & Neighbors is doing something truly special. Definitely add it to your watchlist.

My Take – An excellent series!

Mercy for None – Came in 2025. As the toughest fighter in the world of crime, Gijun claims victory in a battle that ends the long power struggle between Seoul's gangs. But when his brother Giseok rises in rank within the enemy group, Gijun decides to slash his own heel and leave the business to avoid fighting him. Just when all seems at peace 15 years later, Giseok is mysteriously ambushed and killed in cold blood right before his own retirement. Filled with a chilly rage, Gijun sets off on a one-man hunt to track down everyone involved in his brother's death. And he has a feeling he doesn't need to look far to find the main culprit... With revenge and old gang rivalries factoring into the equation, Seoul's underbelly is in for yet another grisly bloodbath!.

A review from IMDB...

This is one of the best series I have seen in this genre. It is faithful to its title. The writing, directing, acting, and all other aspects of the series are excellent. I cannot find a fault. What it says is what you get.

It is a story about men in deadly competition. There are maybe two scenes with a female and a few with civilians, but it is not targeted to male viewers only. As a woman, I enjoyed this, as did other females. (We like Film Noir, too!) It is a testosterone-filled action all the way.

The characters are a product of their environment, and the main leads undergo development within their world and its rules. Violence reigns supreme, and blood flows from flashing blades, but it is not gratuitous. Everything happens for a reason and is within the context of the story.

These are men who, if playing sport, would keep running if their legs broke because in this world, to stop is to die. Adrenaline is a powerful drug.

While seeing some get their well-earned karma is satisfying, others provoke sympathy for what could have been or what was lost. I developed a liking for the main lead particularly, and understood a many of the others.

I recommend a binge-watch with Korean snacks and soju or beer. :) Sandra, Australia. June 2025.

It beats any gang-related series totally. I include The Godfather series, which I dislike because it romanticises the Mafia story. This series most certainly does not romanticise Korean gang rivalry and its internal politics.

As an older female in Australia who loves KDrama and JDrama and reads the English subtitles, I thoroughly enjoyed this and wish I spoke Korean.

My Take – An excellent series.

Adios till next time😊!!
