Welcome to the new world!!
Where anything you do online, is tracked and monitored. And it is monetized and sold to people who
want to know what you are doing online and your spending habits. And now you are told before itself that
whatever you do online is going to be used against you and would be shared with
anyone the company feels that it is ok to do so, your privacy be damned.
Remember the time when before installing any Windows software or any
other software, you were shown an I Agree page where, unless you clicked on “I
Agree”, it will not move away from the screen to install the software. Earlier also no one bothered to read the 3-4
page of information and used to click on I Agree to start the
installation. Now the software has been
replaced by an App. Here you are not
given a 3-4 page of information to read.
It just says that by clicking on the “I Accept” or some such Icon, you
are handing over whatever information is there on your mobile phone.
The basic thing asked by any app is your Contacts, Messages and
Photos. By clicking on I Accept, you are
sharing everything in your phone to the App owner and cannot do anything about
that after. He can then copy all the
info on your mobile to his server and use the information anyway he wants
to. No wonder there are lot of frauds
taking place nowadays.
Even Apps that don’t require your data, nowadays ask for it. Truecaller, asks for your entire contact
list. If you accept to use its app for
messages, it will store all your messages in its server and somewhere down the
line, will decide on what to do with it.
WhatsApp too asks for your contact list to be shared with them. Else any message that you get will be shown
against a phone number, which you may not know whom, unless you have linked it
to your Contact list.
Similarly, for Ola too, if you have given them access to your
Message list, it will automatically ready your OTP and autofill it when you are
prompted to enter the OTP. If it can
read the OTP automatically, please note that it can read and copy your other
messages too.
And every other day, you have one company or the other coming out
and say that over one lakh people’s data haven been leaked or compromised, but
otherwise all is ok!! And of course, it
is not their fault! Why did you trust
them with your data? They told you that
they can do anything with your data. And
they just did that!! You only got what
you deserved 😊
And if you have used your mail id, like Gmail, to order anything
online, please be prepared to see ads of the same product from different
vendors, whenever you are browsing other websites next. Of course Gmail never reads your mails😊. They just guess and
show you just the product you ordered!!
Book flight tickets through email and see it on your Calendar!! You feel great that it is helping you. You are not aware as to who it is helping, at
the end of the day!!
So, whatever you do online, please do so only if you are not
bothered by who all know about it!!
