More web-series reviews…

Grantchester –  Grantchester is a British ITV detective drama, set in the 1950s Cambridgeshire village of the same name. The show featured first Anglican vicar Sidney Chambers (James Norton) who develop a sideline in sleuthing with the help of Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green). The series is based on The Grantchester Mysteries, collections of short stories written by James Runcie. The first series was based on the six stories from the first book, Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death, and was broadcast in 2014. Other series were aired in 2016, 17 and 18 with the same cast.  The lead was replaced for the 5th and 6th series.  The sixth series is scheduled to release in 2021.

Overall a good series. I saw up to the 4th series till James Norton was the lead.  The premise is similar to Father Brown where the vicar also gets involved is solving mysteries.  The only difference being that Father Brown is an aged person and Sidney is a young one.  I found this to be better than Father Brown.

Taj Mahal 1989 – Taj Mahal 1989 is an Indian comedy drama romance. The plot is set in Lucknow in 1989 India and revolves around a number of characters with different takes on love. It was released on Netflix on 14 February 2020.

Lucknow, 1989. A pre-Internet age, where finding love was difficult, but sustaining it, even more so. Taj Mahal 1989 follows the intersecting lives of a Lucknow University professor couple, their students, a long lost friend and his lover, and a schoolgirl in love with an older boy. Through the daily struggles and triumphs of the characters, the series explores the different shades of love over the ages as it mutates and matures.

7 episodes of about half an hour each.  Overall a very interesting and cute series.  Definitely a worthy watch.

Code M – Code M is an Indian Hindi drama web series.

Army lawyer, Monica Mehra, gets roped in to solve, what seems like an open and shut case, of the death of an army officer and two militant suspects, killed in an encounter. However, as the facts unfold, she realises that the case is way more complex than what it appears to be. Will she be able to crack the code?

Release in January 2020. 8 episodes of about 18-25 minutes length.  Ok kind of a series. Nothing much to write about.

Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors – Anuradha Chandra stabs her perfect lawyer husband one fateful night and confesses to her crime. However, it is anything but an open and shut case.

Behind Closed Doors, the second installment of the Criminal Justice franchise, is out. While Pankaj Tripathi returns as lawyer Madhav Mishra to fight yet another case, actor Kirti Kulhari takes center stage as Anuradha Chandra, who has been arrested for her husband's murder.

A very well-made series.  Pankaj Tripathi excels in his role.  All the other characters have also acted well. Definitely a must-see series.

Shrikant Bashir – This is an edgy action-drama series which showcases the partnership of two ideologically and ethnically different individuals working for Surgical Operation Team (SOT), a premium intelligence agency that solves crimes of national threat. The series is led by the dynamic duo Shrikant Mhatre and Bashir Khan, who cannot see eye to eye, but end up working together - bending their personal differences - for the greater good of the nation. The SOT faces a constant threat by a terrorist groups and international criminals who cause tumultuous events such as Nuclear Threats, Bank Scams, a Biological warfare that lead the SOT to perform Surgical Operations.

The reviews were good, so I started to watch the serial.  Had to stop after watching about 3 episodes.  Didn’t find it that interesting to continue watching.  The lead characters too were not that great for me to continue watching their rivalry.

Cheers till next time!!
