More web-series reviews…

Tandav – The charismatic leader of a premiere political party – Samar Pratap Singh (Saif Ali Khan) feels he’s ready to inherit the chair of PM but Samar’s father, the party patriarch and the PM – Devki Nandan Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia) isn’t willing to retire yet. Anuradha Kishore, Devki’s close associate (Dimple Kapadia), party senior leader Gopal Das (Kumud Mishra) are few of many other leaders considering themselves fit to sit in this chair. But this chair never comes easily, they must constantly keep striving for it. A parallel story is that of the idealistic campus activist Shiva Shekhar (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) who becomes an overnight icon as he shines at a political event. Shiva now wants to bring the change, sway the youth, overthrow the power pillars – he knows the sweet taste of power. And power corrupts. Shiva and Samar will meet as country politics will cross roads with youth politics. Tandav is the coming together of a series of manipulations that exposes layers of human greed, ambition, love, vulnerability, and violence.

Overall a good series but the ending is very abrupt as the makers want to cash in on the popularity of the series for further seasons!  Worth watching. Only 9 episodes of about 26-38 minutes each.

Mismatched – Mismatched is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age romantic drama web series on Netflix, based on Sandhya Menon's 2017 novel When Dimple Met Rishi.

While the novel is set in the United States, the story was adapted to take place in Jaipur, with filming took place in and around the city for 40-50 days.

Since it was based on the book, I read the book after seeing the series.  The book is way much better than the series.  The series has too much other characters and completely spoils the actual story as laid down in the book.  My advice would be just to read the book😊.  Series 2 is also planned as the 1st series had just 6 episodes and left the story midway.

Never Kiss Your Best Friend – Sumer Singh Dhillon and Tanie Brar, former best friends, run into each other after years of separation. There is a definite awkwardness between them and a shadow of the reason why they parted ways is still present but they can't help reignite their perfect friendship. A look into the past reveals just how deep their bond was despite an awkward introduction and just how close they were as friends. But as they reconnect as their older, more experienced selves, something more than friendship begins forming between them. Question is, will they manage to figure out their relationship?

An excellent series. A heart-warming story that redefines the rules of friendship.  Worth watching. Available in Zee5. You can safely ignore the 2nd part😊!

Gullak (Seasons 1 and 2) – I don’t know how I missed out the first season!  First, I watched the 2nd season.  An excellent series!!  Typical north Indian middle class family story.  No, not a story, as it is mentioned in the series, but incidents that are usually always seen in middle class families.  Just 10 episodes over 2 seasons with each episode of only about 20 minutes or so.

From www.imdb.com

What do you expect stories from a small town in the heart of North India to be like? Filled with shades of grey, petty crime, sorrow and stories of revenge? You couldn't be further from the truth and Gullak will show you how. Set in quaint by-lanes in the heart of India, Gullak is a collection of disarming and relatable tales of the Mishra family. Join Santosh and Shanti Mishra, their sons Annu and Aman, as they savour the many flavours of a small-town life with a smattering of humour, wit and of course, ladleful of love.

Watched the 1st season after the second season.  Found the 1st season to be even better😊!!  Well worth the watch for both the seasons!!

Cheers till next time!!
