188. Web-Series Reviews – 40

More web-series… Indian ones😊

Chacha Vidhayak Hain Hamare – This is an Indian comedy streaming television series created by Zakir Khan, and starring Zakir Khan, Alka Amin and Zakir Hussain. It is an Amazon Prime exclusive series and premiered on 18 May 2018. The Second season of the show was released on 26 March 2021.

Story of the series revolves around Ronny (Zakir Khan), a young lad whose life is not driven by big ambitions. All he wants is a comfortable life where he can boast about himself using convenient lies. He's the boss of his cocoon where his followers take his word for the ultimate truth, all because he pretends that his Uncle is an MLA.

In the second season, as Ronny's dream of becoming a politician starts to materialize, a tough opponent Vicky enters his life who disrupts his political ambition and personal relationships.

A review from IMDB...

Zakir khan take a bow. A class act from start to finish. Zakir khan plays Ronnie, a boy next door in Indore. The things that really work so well are the character sketches, the characters are real and feels like we know them in real life.

Zakir is not your typical leading man, and that is what is so good, he doesn't try to be handsome, rugged or any other Indian Male hero Stereotype instead he plays the character, a simpleton looking for some respect and his place in society.

The other actors shine as well, Ronnie's two friends play their parts to the T, Venus singh as Avantika is very relate able and she brings in an innocence and lightness to the show as well.

Ronnie's dad is every dad I know, especially my own. The small nuances in dialogue and setup is truly commendable. Overall the plots are really interesting and keep you on your toes, you want ronnie to win, to sort the problems out and to come out on top.

The cinematography is simple, without ever intruding into the characters' spaces, you feel like you're looking into someone's life. The music is very catchy, Overall super potential here to make something very enjoyable that a whole family can watch inspite of all the cuss words.

Indian Television content today is in such a horrible state that definitely they can take a leaf or two from this book and learn. Great job to the whole team, casting directors, production crew and editors, Looking forward to season 2 and many more.

My Take – A decent series.  Worth a watch but not up to Gullak standards.

The Last Hour – The Last Hour is an Indian supernatural crime thriller web series on Amazon Prime Video. Starring Sanjay Kapoor, Karma Takapa, Shahana Goswami, Raima Sen, Shaylee Krishen and Mandakini Goswami. The story revolves around the life of a mysterious shaman who can talk to spirits of dead people, and the drama that unfolds around it. The series premiered in May 2021.

Arup is a Mumbai-based Police officer who is assigned a case after his transfer to the northeast. An actress from Bengal is brutally raped and murdered. In between the investigation, we see many locals on the run for saving their lives. Dev, is an archer who is seen shooting arrows in the wilderness.

Dev is a Shaman who can communicate with the soul of the dead body and relive their last hour. Arup takes help from Dev for solving murders in the vicinity. However, Dev always finds a way to find something more than he is required by using his Shaman power. He also manages to check-on Pari, Arup's daughter, while he falls in love.

Yama Nadu is following Dev to kill him because Dev injured his eye that can envision a person's death. He is assisted by his right-hand, Thapa.

My Take – An ok series.  The ending of the series points to a second season.

The Family Man 2 – This was released in June 2021.  An excellent follow-up to the first season!  One of the reviews from IMDB…

Gotta say, Raj and DK are one of the torch bearers of Indian OTT platforms. The Family Man is amongst the most popular Indian series and as of writing this review season 2 has finished.

At this point there's no need to praise Manoj Bajpayee for his skills. Just be thankful he exists and gifts us with these gems and we must protect him at all costs.

One of the best things about this series is the writing of characters. Small or lead characters, everyone is paid attention to detail and they exist for a reason. The antagonists are always very very well written which makes this more nail biting. Apart from that, background score, production design, dialogues are top notch.

VFX could be better with bigger budget and sometimes there are dues ex machina happening with either event or character which is a let down but nonetheless it's still entertaining, sometimes shocking with sprinkles of comic moments.

Lastly, The Family Man is a must watch show and ironically not family friendly.

Cheers till next time😊!!
