Parachute – Came out in 2024. Shanmugam does not spare the rod and spoil his children. But despite his strict nature, they go on a joyride on his bike and get lost. What will he do now?
A review from IMDB...
Tone, Script & Story: The story is about two children who go missing in search of their father's bike named parachute. Will they be able to retrieve their father's possession? Will they be able to reunite with their family?
The thing is the children fear their father specially the boy. The father is ruthless mainly towards the boy and can be seen thrashing him. As a result the children don't aim to go home but first find the bike.
I congratulate "Disney + Hotstar" to bring to us such a wonderful series.
Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: The poor, their home, the police station, the medical, the route, the map, the van, the riots, the police all stand justified.
The story is clean and free from ambiguous storyline. What I mean is what happens to bike is common. Although what happens further may be rare.
Acting: I saw the Hindi dubbed the version and I found the dubbing of the children and their acting spectacular. Other entities were justified as well.
Final Verdict: Do watch it, you would cherish it.
My Take – Worth a watch!
The Residence – Came out in 2025. 132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous state dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world's most famous mansion. Amid all the twists and turns, detective Cordelia Cupp partners with skeptical FBI special agent Edwin Park to untangle an intriguing murder mystery.
A review from IMDB...
A. B. Wynter The Chief Usher at The Whitehouse is killed, Cordelia Cupp is brought in to investigate, it's a sensitive time as The President is entertaining The Australian Prime Minister. Cuppa puts the building on lockdown, but her enquiries are hindered by lies and evasion.
Stick with it, that's my advice, just stick with it, I'm going to say I loved it, I have thoroughly enjoyed it, but I found it a little slow to start, for me the first two episodes were a little frustrating, once it got going though, I was hooked
The final two
episodes had me absolutely captivated, the way in which all of the pieces of
the puzzle fall into place, it's so satisfying. Arguably it could have been
done in fewer episodes.
There's nothing like a Whodunnit, it gets your brain working, and if you're like me, you moved from The Pastry chef, to Sheila, to lily to the next one, who doesn't love a puzzle.
It has more of a Knives out vibe, it's smart, definitely not your Agatha Christie style murder mystery.
It's quite funny at times, in a subtle sort of way, I thought Sheila was a laugh, plus the hope of getting to see Hugh Jackman.
The characters are so rich, even those that seem not to have any significance early on, soon offer something.
Uzo Aduba does a great job as Cordelia, I'd love to see more of the character, she's one smart cookie.
Very watchable.
My Take – A good watch!
Johan Falk – A set of 17 movies from 2009 to 2015 featuring Johan Falk. Policeman Johan Falk returns to Gothenburg and starts service at the successful special service GSI, but the relation between the unit and the criminals introduces him to a world he never thought existed.
A review from IMDB...
Recap: Johan Falk is back in Sweden after his work at Europol ended. He joins GSI, a special task force in the Swedish Police against organized crime. This task force has a unusual high success rate and when a series of unusually brutal robberies GSI is the spearhead. They get a tip that few of the robbers are hiding in hotel downtown, but the hit against them goes awry. One of the GSI members is killed in shootout and then everything breaks lose. But in this chaos Johan Falk is approached by one of the robbers, claiming to be on the payroll of the killed cop claiming to be innocent. Now the two of them can't rely on anyone, neither cops nor robbers, and least of all each other.
Comments: The fourth movie about Johan Falk, a series that started with Noll Tolerans (1999), and the first one in a few more movies in the series. The series has been successful because that it has emphasized the suspense instead of effects and high-octane action, things that budget constraints and lack of experience in the Swedish movie industry make almost impossible. GSI, Gruppen för särskilda insatser, continue to do this very well. And that are a very good thing, because the few special effects that are in the movie are ridiculously bad.
But the things it can do well, it really does well. Gruppen för särskilda insatser is a very good, at least for Swedish standards, actionthriller, with the emphasis on thriller. It is a good story that builds the suspense slowly but at moments it really put me on the edge. The team behind the movie knows what they can do well, and they do it really well.
I think the cast does well too, even if it is a risky proposition to put a well known comedian as the lieutenant of the task force. With few exceptions, that gamble worked out well. Jakob Eklund returns as Johan Falk, and does it well, but that was critically important for the series. It is never a good idea to change actor as the lead character. The others in the supporting cast does well too, even if the story revolves very much about only three characters.
One of the few Swedish movies that I actually liked, but that comes with what I stated above. It's a thriller that just has the aim to be a good thriller, nothing more. And therefore it succeeds.
My Take – A good series. I saw 6 movies and left if after that.
Adios till next time😊!!
