447. The Fall Part 2

Continuing from last week…

During the stay at Murari’s place, I was given the food on my bed itself as it was quite cumbersome to hop around to reach the dining table😊!  Since the plaster was to stay for 42 days, I stopped my diet restrictions and had sweets and chaat items.  I knew that I could stop these whenever I want, so I over-indulged on these items.

For coming back to Hyderabad, I booked a cab.  Luckily a big cab came for us. I sat in the front with a pillow under my leg for support.  It took about 10-11 hours for the drive from Bangalore to Hyderabad. Luckily, I did not have to visit the washroom for the entire trip😊. We stopped for breakfast and lunch in between. I stayed in the car and others went to have the food. My wife came to give me the food both times and I had them in the car itself.

On reaching home, I hopped on to the house with the support of my son.  My wife got me the walker from the store room.  I occupied the ground floor room of my mother, as it would have been very difficult to manage if I had gone to my room in the first floor.  My wife also shifted to the ground floor.  Every morning, after getting up, I would hop to the bathroom, brush my teeth sitting on a stool and then come out.  Another hop with the walker to the hall where my chair and laptop were kept.  Sometimes breakfast at the same place, or a hop to the dining table.  Lunch and dinner at the dining table itself.  Then watching movies and series on my laptop. When me wife joins me, we would watch it on the TV through a memory stick.

I had opted to take bath once in two days.  I had a chair in the bathroom put for taking bath. The entire leg from knee to the foot was put in a plastic cover and then the foot was placed on a stool in an inclined manner so that water could not go inside the plaster.  For the first day, my wife helped with the arrangement. Next time onwards, I did it on my own.  Sometimes it gets difficult to balance on one leg, especially when changing clothes😊. With the help of yoga from Habuild, I was able to do it.  Even then, 3-4 times it seemed like I was going to fall. Luckily, it did not happen😊, else another 42-day cycle would have started😊!

Since it was IPL time, in the evening, I would be watching movies or series on my laptop with IPL running on TV, on mute. If my wife also came for watching, we would watch movies and series on TV, with IPL running on my laptop😊, on mute!  Then at night, another hop to the bedroom and sleep.  As the doctor had recommended some sleeping poses, it was easy for the sleep to come😊!

Almost for more than a month, I did this on a daily basis.  Then the time came for the removal of the plaster. We went to the hospital for the removal. The Dr said that the fracture has healed but it would take another month for me to become stable. He said that I can walk with a walker and try to see whether I can walk without them after a few days.  He also gave a pain medication in case I need it.

Once back home, I tried walking with walker and then without the walker. It was paining in the knee and the ankle area. My foot also got swollen.  My wife talked to her friend who was a physiotherapist. She advised that I should keep my feet up while sitting and not keep it down. She said over a period of time, the swelling will get reduced.  With the feet up for a day while sitting and then with overnight sleep, the swelling got reduced.

I thought of consulting the doctor again. When I asked him if I can drive vehicles, both 2 and 4 wheelers, he became angry😊! He said first learn to walk and then I can run😊!  He asked me to take it slow and meet him after 6 more weeks. He said he would do an x-ray and then tell me what to do and what not at that time.  He advised some exercise to be done for the ankle.

So, till the 1st week of July, again I am home-bound and taking it slow.  I have a trip coming up for a week during mid-June, which was booked 3 months back.  Earlier the doctor had said that I can do that trip. Hopefully, I will be able to do the trip, maybe with a walking stick😊!  Let’s see how it goes!

Adios till next time😊!
