445. The Fall Part 1

Some 2 years ago, I decided to join the yoga program with Habuild (another blog on this topic later😊) to get me in shape.  In Feb or March this year, they provided me an opportunity to attend a session at the Art of Living campus in Bangalore.  I checked out the same on the website and decided to attend the session.  In April, I went to Bangalore and started attending the session.  My attendance was just to find out what the program was rather than envisaging whether my body will benefit from it or not😊!

The campus was good and I had selected a 4-sharing room, meaning 4 people to one room.  There were 4 individual beds and an attached bathroom in the room.  The sessions were also good and I was able to do most of them.  Because of my leg issues, I was provided some leeway in exercises where I had to use my leg muscles most.

In one session, there were some games involved. In the first game, I was among the 15-20 odd winners of the game, when the game was called off.  In the second game, I was eliminated within the first few minutes.  After sometime, the third game started.  We all were standing on a cushion and at the sound of the teacher’s whistle, we were supposed to run and stand on the cushion on the opposite side to us. All the participants were standing in a large circle. In hindsight, I should have avoided this game, as it involved running.  But, when you are in a game and participating with a crowd, these thoughts don’t come to mind😊! Once the whistle blew, I started running to the opposite side. One girl almost brushed with me during the running, but luckily nothing happened to either of us.  Just when I reached the other end and was about to keep my foot on the cushion, I noticed another girl’s feet also about to hit the cushion.  Since I was running, when I placed my feet on the cushion, it slipped away and because of physics😊, my leg got bent at 90 degrees and both of us fell down.  My leg got twisted during the fall. Luckily nothing happened to the other participant.

My ankle on the right leg started to swell and there was some pain. One of the Habuild associate got a balm and applied it on my ankle. It was comforting.  But the pain remained.  I asked the other participants to continue with the session and I decided to skip it.  Ms Kashish from Habuild suggested that I go to a hospital and check out if I had any fracture.  She and another colleague of hers arranged for me to visit the hospital in the campus premises.  The doctor there suggested that we go to their hospital at another location or somewhere outside as their orthopedic doctor was not available in that location.  We decided to go to an outside hospital. Ms Kashish accompanied me to the hospital.  After the x-ray, it was confirmed that there was a large hairline fracture.  Due to the swelling, they put a temporary plaster and asked me to change the plaster after a week.

I came back to the campus and asked my brother-in-law (Murari) to come and take me home from the reception. His house was located just about 2-3 kms away from the campus.  My roommates came to the reception after packing all my belongings and gave me my stuff.  By this time Murari had also come in his car to pick me up.  I went to his house and parked myself in a room.  He also arranged for a walker for me to help in the walking.

I had to decide if I wanted to be there in Bangalore for a week or head back to Hyderabad.  Murari went to his known doctor and showed him my X-ray and the prescription from the other hospital. The Dr suggested that I should travel by a car or taxi only as flight and train would be difficult to manage.  I had to keep my leg somewhat inclined and that would be a problem in the flight. Also, the entrance in the train coach is very small for someone with one leg to go inside the coach.  I then decided to stay in Bangalore for a week, get the proper plastering done and then head for Hyderabad.  I then asked my wife to come to Bangalore as it would be difficult to travel alone in the taxi from Bangalore to Hyderabad.

My wife and son both came to Bangalore.  After a couple of days, we went to the doctor to remove the temporary plaster and put on the actual plaster for the leg.  The doctor said that for any fracture, the plaster should be put for 42 days, from the date of the fall. The Dr recommended some exercise for the leg and showed me some sleeping postures so that there is no pressure on the ankle. After sleeping lying straight in the bed for the past week, this was some heavy relief for me😊! I used to lay awake at night waiting for the morning to come so that I can spend time watching something on my tab.  When my wife came to Bangalore, she also brought my laptop and hard disk.  That helped me in whiling away the time watching various movies and series.

I thought that I could write about this in a single blog, but since it has already crossed one page, I will stop here and continue in the next blog😊!

Tomorrow, the web-series blog would follow and then next Saturday, the concluding part of The Fall blog😊!

Adios till then😊!
