122. Web-series Reviews – 8
More web-series reviews to entertain you during the lockdown😊😊!!
Stranger
Things – I first saw a glimpse of this series
about a couple of months back, as it had come out with a new season. While seeing some scenes, I thought it to be
for kids. When the lockdown happened, I
read the reviews of this series again and then decided to see it. The synopsis is as under…
In a small town
where everyone knows everyone, a peculiar incident starts a chain of events
that leads to the disappearance of a child, which begins to tear at the fabric
of an otherwise peaceful community. Dark government agencies and seemingly
malevolent supernatural forces converge on the town, while a few of the locals
begin to understand that there's more going on than meets the eye.
Even though the
story is of school kids, some of the kids’ characteristics make you smile
throughout the series. You can also see
them grow before your eyes, in each season, as it has been 4 years since its
first run. The story hooks onto you
right from the 1st episode and you want to know how it goes on. There are 3 seasons released so far, from
2016 to 2019 with the 4th one being planned for 2021. I managed to see all the 3 seasons over a
period of 4-5 days😊 and now my kids are
watching it!! A definitive watch!
The Sinner – The synopsis is as follows…. Season 1 follows a young mother who,
when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of
violence and to her horror has no idea why. The event launches an inverted and
utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the
"who" or the "what" -- but the "why" -- as an
investigator finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive.
Together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the
violent secrets hidden in her past.
Season 2 follows a troubled detective returns to his hometown to
investigate why a young boy would kill his parents. Season 3 follows the Detective investigate a
tragic yet suspicious car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester.
Starring Bill
Pullman as the Detective, who was the “President” in the movie “The
Independence Day”, this series is top notch.
There are 3 seasons released so far with the 3rd season being
released earlier this year. Each season
is a different story and by the end of the season, the story ends, and there is
no wait for the next season to know how the season ends! This is a detective
story and should be a must-watch in your binge-watch list!! Binged the entire
series over a 2-day period😊!
Through a mailer
from bookmyshow, I was introduced to various documentaries having been made by
Netflix and Amazon and was keen to see them.
The reviews that I read about them were excellent and these documentary
series too can be binge-watched as a regular series. The next two reviews are of documentaries
that are well made and gives you insights on people’s psychology as to why and
how they end up doing what they did.
Evil
Genius – The True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist – This documentary series consists of 4 episodes. The extraordinary
story of the "pizza bomber heist" and the FBI's investigation into a
bizarre collection of suspects. It’s just mind-blowing. Each episode has its
own strong stories that would work well as a stand-alone event, except that
they are all related in complex ways and tell this insane over-arching plot.
The mystery that unfolds from the bizarre SAW-like first episode is so
unpredictable and twisty, right up to the very last moments. It’s fascinating
watching interviews, hearing bits and pieces of information, and finding your
mind folding in on itself as you try to suss people out, think about motives,
all the 'what ifs' etc. There is something always eerie and atmospheric about
seeing evidence, street footage of locations, news footage, tying it all
together like you're a voyeuristic detective. An exceptional “whodunit” kind of
a series. Worth watching. Watched it at a stretch😊.
Conversations
with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes – A look
inside the mind of serial killer Ted Bundy, featuring interviews with him on
death row. A documentary on Ted Bundy,
believed to be one of the most evil murderers to ever walk this Earth! He is believed to have killed more than 30
girls spread over a period of 4 years in the US. He managed to postpone his execution for
nearly 10 years by proclaiming his innocence and turning his trial into a media
frenzy. In fact, he even escaped from
the jail two times!! Only 4 episodes long and worth watching in terms of
knowing his actions and why he did it. Watched
it over 2 days😊.
