141. Web-series Reviews – 12

More web-series reviews…

BBC has produced so many good web-series that are excellent.  In this blog, I will be writing about 3 of them, all written by Jed Mercurio.

Bodies – A web-series on the medical fraternity, based on the Mercurio’s book of the same name.  An excellent series, however, not for the faint hearted😊!

Synopsis from Wikipedia…

The series is centered on specialist registrar Rob Lake, who starts in a new post in the Obstetrics and gynecology department at the fictional South-Central Infirmary, under the guidance of consultant obstetrician Roger Hurley.

The series differed from most other archetypal British hospital dramas, in that the surgical scenes were notable for their graphic nature, offering intimate detail of various procedures, and the operational complications dealt with in explicit detail. As a result, the themes were also often dark and depressing, including negligence, manipulation and death. Bodies has been described as a "dark, sometimes funny" take on a genre that had been made popular through shows such as Casualty and Holby City. In December 2009, The Times ranked Bodies in ninth place in its list of "Shows of the Decade", and in January 2010, The Guardian ranked Bodies number twenty of "The Greatest Television Dramas of All Time".

Consisting of 2 seasons for 17 episodes and a Finale episode.  Definitely worth a watch.  But, as mentioned before, not for the faint-hearted😊!

Line of Duty – Again created by Jed Mercurio, it centers on the Anti-Corruption Unit 12 of the British Police.  Synopsis from IMDB…

Line of Duty follows Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott, a former authorized firearms officer who led an operation to catch an Islamic terrorist intending to detonate a bomb, but the strike team mistakenly entered the wrong apartment and shot dead an unarmed innocent man. In the subsequent investigation Arnott refused to cover up negligence in the planning and execution of the raid and unable to work in his unit anymore, Arnott receives a transfer to AC-12, a unit tasked with uncovering police corruption.

Arnott is partnered with D.C. Kate Fleming, a highly-commended undercover officer with a keen investigative instinct. They work under the supervision of Superintendent Ted Hastings, who is one of several Senior Investigating Officers responsible for uncovering corruption within the police force. Throughout the series, AC-12 investigate seemingly disparate cases involving seemingly-corrupt police officers, with each series focusing on a different corrupt officer and AC-12 soon realize the pervasive nature of corruption and the police's deep-rooted links to an organized crime group with ties to drug running, prostitution, child exploitation and people trafficking.

An excellent and thrilling series.  Started in 2012 and has completed 5 seasons as of end-2019.  6th season is expected in 2021.  Definitely worth a watch.

Bodyguard- Again, the series written by Jed Mercurio and a British police political-thriller.

Synopsis from IMDB…

After an act of heroism which prevents a terrorist attack on a train, Police Sergeant David Budd is assigned to protect the Home Secretary, Julia Montague. Budd is the consummate professional but finds himself conflicted. He served in Afghanistan and saw many of his comrades killed or maimed in a war which Montague was to a degree responsible for. In addition, he soon finds himself a pawn in a political power struggle. Moreover, terrorist activity is on the rise and he finds himself in the centre of it.

Only 1 season of 6 episodes of about an hour each.  Definitely worth a watch.

Cheers till next time!!
