 More web-series with female detectives…

Those Who Kill – Den Som Dreaber – Another Danish crime series😊 which specializes in investigating serial murders.  Came out in 2011.  I haven’t seen the American version, which was a copy of this.   Review of the Danish version from an IMDB user…

Finished watching the only season of this Danish TV serial which is being remade for US right now. Every episode is almost 1.5 hrs, characters are same but every episode comes up with a new serial killer to analysis and catch. A female lead detective pairs with a talented but problematic forensic psychiatrist to catch these killers. They all have their share of personal problems to handle. Katrine (Detective) has been abused as a child by her stepfather and Thomas (FP) always grasping to retain balance between his work or job that he desires and his family.

Now the stories. Every serial killer is different, everyone has their own way of thinking and different way of killing. Thomas analysis the methodology of the killer in his own way, links up the puzzles that help Katrine catch the killer. Some stories are brilliant, some are average, but overall there were lots of excitement and intelligent stuff.

Excellent series!!

Hidden – Hidden is a Welsh television drama serial. It was initially broadcast in Welsh on the Welsh-language channel S4C under its Welsh name Craith. The bilingual version of the series, under the English name Hidden, was broadcast on BBC One Wales and BBC Four. Two series have aired, in 2018 and 2019, with a third one due to be broadcast in 2021.

The Guardian compared Hidden favourably to the Swedish Scandi-noir drama The Bridge, describing it as one of the "current powerhouse run of Wales-set dramas", with "scenes in Welsh to provide that sweet Nordic subtitles hit". It went on to say "Hidden is perhaps the most confidently stylish and stylised yet. As well as a gorgeously gothic credits sequence, it features handsomely brooding landscapes, offbeat interior locations that go far beyond the usual bland corridors/offices of cop drama, and an ominous, skin-prickling soundtrack skillfully employed to heighten the sense of dread.

The eight-part drama, filmed in Snowdonia, tells the story of detective DI Cadi John (Sian Reese-Williams), who returns to North Wales to care for her ailing father. However, when the body of a young woman is found in a local river, it becomes obvious that sinister secrets lie within the stunning North Wales scenery. Cadi's world - and the world around her - is changed forever.

Excellent series!!

Coroner – Coroner is a Canadian police procedural crime drama based on the Jenny Cooper series of novels by M. R. Hall. The series premiered on CBC in January 2019 and has done 3 seasons so far with the 3rd one getting completed in 2021. The series stars Serinda Swan as Jenny Cooper, a recently widowed coroner in Toronto who investigates suspicious deaths.

Nice series.

Mare of Easttown – This is an American crime drama limited series created by Brad Ingelsby that premiered on HBO on April 18, 2021. It stars Kate Winslet as the detective.

In a suburb of Philadelphia, a detective named Mare Sheehan investigates the recent murder of a teenage mother while trying to keep her own life from falling apart. Mare is a local hero, having been the star of a high-school basketball championship game 25 years ago. She has also been unable to solve the case of another missing young girl for a year, leading many in the community to doubt her detective skills. Her personal troubles include a divorce, a son lost to suicide, and an ex-heroin addict former daughter-in-law battling for custody of Mare's grandson.

A user review from IMDB…

Best series I have seen in a while! Quality quality quality from top to bottom. Kate Winslet and the rest of the cast were perfect. Directing was exceptional. The stories and all the themes presented was executed masterfully. The score was probably the weakest aspect of the whole show but still solid.

The pilot was gripping and sucked me in with its realism. Character development and how they were being fleshed out kept me invested. Can't believe how much was packed into just 7 episodes. So many twists and turns throughout and the finale was mind blowing. I think of other great mystery shows like True Detective season 1 that is absolutely gripping and realistic as well, but the finale ends up being a tad lackluster. But this show actually has an amazing finale with a closure that is most satisfying. I literally stood up and clapped after the ending.

This show was much more than a whodunnit mystery but a character study with themes of forgiveness, grief, and letting go. There is a brokenness with many characters throughout the series that may seem depressing, but that is what makes the show feel so authentic and human. Real life isn't Hollywood. We are complex beings shaped by our choices and circumstances presented to us, carving our way through life the best that we can. Mistakes will be inevitable, but we have the power of choice to learn and grow from them or drown ourselves away in denial. This show really isn't all depressing but also shows a lot of love, empathy, and resilience of a broken spirit.

Best show I have seen this year and is also one of the best mystery detective shows of all time. This is a must watch. An absolute masterpiece.

Excellent series!

Top of the Lake – This is a mystery drama television series.  It aired in 2013, and the sequel, entitled Top of the Lake: China Girl, in 2017.

Set in a remote mountain town in New Zealand, "Top of the Lake" centers on the disappearance of 12-year-old Tui, who is five months pregnant. She is last seen standing chest deep in a freezing lake, and now all attention is focused on inexperienced detective Robin Griffin, who leads the investigation in the same town where she endured traumatic events years earlier. Not only must she find Tui, but Robin also embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Her limits are tested amid clashes with Matt, the missing girl's father and local drug lord, and GJ, a guru at a local women's camp.

Top of the Lake: China Girl is a crime mystery story that begins four years on from the explosive ending of the first installment. After the shocking events that rocked her hometown in New Zealand, Detective Robin Griffin, recently returned to Sydney, is trying to rebuild her life. When the body of an Asian girl washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Robin realizes "China Girl" didn't die alone. Robin's search to discover "China Girl's" identity takes her into the city's criminal underbelly and closer than she could have imagined to the secrets of her own heart.

Nice series.  Saw the 1st season and skipped the second😊.  Somewhat slow pace in my opinion.

Cheers till next time!
