111. Web-series reviews – 5
The concluding
part of the reviews…
Queen – A Tamil/Hindi/Telugu serial based on the novel of the same name
by Anita Sivakumaran, which is loosely based on the life of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha. Season 1 contains 11 episodes. I watched the
Tamil version. The protagonist here is called Shakti Seshadriπ as, I suppose, they can’t
take Jayalalitha’s name for legal reasons!!
The serial starts from the childhood days of her and the reason behind
her entry into the cinema industry, the way she learned everything in the
cinema, The relationship between Shakthi and GMR and finally her political
entry. I admit that I have seen only 2
episodes so far. I found the series to
be very slow. I have not yet forced
myself to see the remaining episodes.
Maybe when I exhaust my other series and movies that are yet to be seen,
I might come back and watch the rest of the series. The serial starts with the interview she gave
in the Rendezvous with Simi Garewal show and while answering the questions, the
serial shows her early days and how things panned out to be. There are supposed to be 3 ladies playing
Shakti. One, when in school, another while acting in earlier films and then
finally the last when she enters politics.
Ramya Krishnan is supposed to be a good actor and the serial may be
good. The reviews that I have come
across say the serial is very good and her acting has been praised.
Luther – Another recommendation from my cousin sister. It is supposed to be running from 2010
onwards and they aired the 5th season in 2019. The synopsis being – The series stars Idris
Alba who is working for the Serious Crime Unit. A dedicated police officer,
Luther is obsessive, possessed, and sometimes violent. However, Luther has paid
a heavy price for his dedication; he has never been able to prevent himself
from being consumed by the darkness of the crimes with which he deals. I finished the first season and thought I
will check out the balance seasons later.
Then I found that the next 4 seasons total to only 14 more
episodes. So, I finished the entire lotπ. The series is ok for a
one-time watch for Idris Alba. In every
season they are chasing a serial killer and end up catching him in the
end. In the meanwhile, events also pan
out between the detectives and their loved ones. By the way, Idris Alba is the one who played
as Heimdall in the Marvel’s Avenger movies.
Blue Bloods – Another recommendation from my cousin sister. She said it was excellent!! This show started out in 2011 and is in its
10th season now with the 14th episode set to release on
14th Feb 2020. Each season
consists of 22 episodes. The synopsis of
the show is as follows…
The series
follows the Reagans, a family who has history of work in law enforcement. Frank
Reagan is the Police Commissioner. Frank's oldest son Danny is an NYPD
detective, his youngest son Jamie is an NYPD police sergeant, and his daughter
Erin is the district attorney. Frank's second son Joe was murdered by a crooked
cop in the line of duty in events that pre-date the series, when he was
involved with an FBI investigation of a group of corrupt NYPD cops known as the
Blue Templar. Frank's father Henry is a former NYPD beat cop who rose through
the ranks to become Police Commissioner. Each member of the family represents a
different aspect of police work or the legal process: Frank as the
commissioner, Danny as the detective, Jamie as the beat cop, and Erin as the
prosecutor. Additionally, while each person's story might occasionally
interweave with another's, the show also follows the professional and, at
times, personal relationships with their respective partners and colleagues.
I have seen only
half of the 1st season so far.
Since the count of episodes is quite enormous, I might have to stagger
the watch and hope to complete it this yearπ. The series is ok for a
one-time watch. Each episode consists of
a new crime and ends on how it gets resolved.
