436. Adventures in Andaman Part 3

The itinerary for this day had only 1 place – Elephant Beach.  All the water sports activities were supposed to happen at this place.  I was told by someone that elephants used to swim at this place, hence the name😊!  Here are some facts from internet…

The elephant beach is located at a remote corner of the Havelock Island which is accessible by both water and road from Havelock.  In ancient times, elephants were used to bring people to the beach due to the lack of transport facilities. Hence the name, Elephant Beach😊!  It has a rich and colorful underwater coral reef. What makes this beach popular among other beaches is the opportunity for visitors to indulge in water activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, sea walking, kayaking etc.

We had our breakfast at the hotel and waited for our car to pick us up.  The car took us to the jetty. The lady agent was already there. She procured the boat ticket for us to the beach. We boarded a small boat with 6 other passengers and head to the beach.  The boat ride was about half an hour or so.  We were told before that there were no restaurants there and we had to do with fruit chats and Maggie😊available there! We were also told to buy tickets for the rides beforehand itself so that we do not face any delays in the island due to no-network being available there.

My doctor had advised me not to do scuba diving as a stent had recently been placed in my heart. Also, scuba diving was not allowed for people who were over 50 years of age😊! Sunil wanted to do scuba diving but could not.  We thought we would get some doctor’s certificate regarding clean bill of health, but they refused to accept that.  Anyways, we thought we would do the submarine trip and would decide on other activities later. We paid for this in the jetty place itself and got the tickets.  We were told that our return too would be on the same boat which was taking us to the beach. So, we were told to keep in touch with the people operating the boat in the island.

Once we reached there, we could see lots of sports activities happening there. We went for the submarine trip and had a nice time in it. Some photos are below…

Since the submarine went under water with 16 or so people crammed inside, the a/c was not effective.  We somehow managed to complete the trip and came back.  The trip lasted for about 30-40 minutes. But it somehow made us tired.  We thought we will have something and then decide on other activities.  Had some fruit chaat and also some regular chaat there.  Seeing the other sports activities, we were not so keen in doing them as the plastic boats were travelling very rough in the sea😊!  We just spent time there sitting and whiling away the time.  Sunil and Vaishali went for some jungle trek there.  Since it was an island, a large part of it was made out-of-bounds for tourists.  So were allowed only in the area where the sports activities were being conducted.

Since there was a lot of time, we spent it in the beach there.  Had another round of chaat as that was the only thing available there! By 3pm or so, we returned back to the jetty and from there we were dropped back to our hotel.

I slept off.  Doing nothing throughout the day also makes you very tired😊!  Walked again to the same restaurant to have dinner.  Came back and did the packing as we were supposed to head for the Neil Island the next day and then from there in the evening to Port Blair.  Rest in the next blog😊!

Adios till next time!!
