87 - College reminiscences – 2

There were several instances that happened during my college life that it was getting tedious to list them out and then write on it😊.  However, I thought let me take one instance at a time and then write about it rather than wait for all the instances to hit my brain!!

I remember this incident vividly.  We had gone to a reputed engineering college in North India for their college festival.  There were 8-10 people going from our college and out of that 3 were from my class.  I think this was when I was in the 2nd year of college.  I and my Computer Science Colleague (let’s call him Dukku rather than keep referring to him as the computer science colleague😊) and one more from the General course were travelling.  Dukku and me were participating in the Quiz and my other friend was participating in some other event.

On the first night of our visit to the college, all of us went around roaming around the campus.  Since it was full of greenery, it was very lovely.  After sometime, we 3 guys came back to our allotted hostel and went to sleep.  Next day, we were among the crowd in a singing competition.  Suddenly we found that 3-4 people were coming to the hall and asking for us by the name of our college.  When they reached us and saw our name tags, they asked us to accompany them.  My other friend asked them why we should come.  For his question, he got a tight slap on his face.  Since Dukku and I were very thin at that point of time (😊), we simply went with them.  Our friend also came with us silently.  We were escorted to our rooms and told to pack our bags for our trip back to Delhi.  They stayed with us till we had packed our bags.

We were still not able to know why we were being sent off.  One of my cousins (actually my Uncle😊; yes yes, we too had a lot of “Badhai Ho” instances in our family, as I have some 4-5 cousin uncles who are younger to me !!) was studying there in the 1st year. I called him and asked him as to why we were being sent off.  He said apparently one of our guys had a tiff with one of their senior students last night and had misbehaved inappropriately.  As I had known about my college background, it was not difficult to imagine what had happened!!

We tried to find out if people who were at fault can be sent back and others can stay back and finish their competition.  It was summarily rejected.   By the looks of some of our colleagues, it was evident that some of them had got a good beating!!  Some of the college students escorted us from the college to the bus stand.  They ensured that we had boarded the bus and stayed back till our bus started towards Delhi.  Of course, we were also told not to visit their college again and we will not be sent any invite to their festival from that time onwards.

When we enquired from our colleagues as to what had happened during the night, they said some different story and said some students were against them and they manufactured some story to send them back.  We were told to stick to the same story so that everyone is on the same page when we meet the Principal!!  Of course, we didn’t have intention of spoiling our stay in the college and kept quiet when the other colleagues told the story.  From that day onwards we did not attend any college festivals, until we were sure of the people coming along with us😊!!
