7 Choosing a Cab in India

In India, there are 2 cabs that are very popular – Ola and Uber.  Both of them have a wide variety of cars and the pricing is also based on the type of cars that you choose.  In this blog, I will tell you some ways to reduce your cost of the trip.

Anytime you want to take a trip, open both the apps and check the prices.  Trust me; there will be a significant variation in the prices for the same trip!!  Choose the one that is less and book it for the journey.

If you are travelling alone, both the cabs have one more option to reduce the cost.  (It seems that in Delhi, this facility is going to be withdrawn, for obvious reasons.)  Chose “Share” in Ola and “Uber Pool” in Uber to get some 40-60% off on the trip.  The flipside is that the driver will pick up more passengers (maximum of 3) on the way to your destination.  These pickups may be some 1-2 kms away from your actual route.  But if you have time on your hand, you get to save!!😊😊

Nowadays, book a cab at least 30-45 minutes before you actually need it.  Some of the drivers may just cancel the trip or ask you to cancel. Most of the times, the driver will ask you to cancel the trip.  No problems.  After cancelling, just send a mail to Ola to Uber support regarding the same.  In case they have deducted the money from your account for cancellation charges, they will refund the amount.

Choose “Share” or “Uber Pool” only if you have a half an hour to one hour free with you.  If you are lucky, the driver will drive you the whole way, without getting any other pickups.  In this scenario, you have the whole car to you at just 40-60% of the actual cost.

During peak hours, these cabs charge a higher price.  Uber has an option that lets you know if the peak charges have come down.  Use that to get a reminder from them.

These cabs also provide some offers through SMS and emails. Use that to maximize your savings.  Sometimes for promotion, they also tie up with different events where you get to ride free for the event.  Sometimes they also give out some goodies as a celebration if you click on a new icon that will come on your booking page, at the date and time specified by them.  You have to keep trying to get these goodies, as others also will be trying!! 2 years back, I was delivered some cookies and a Christmas crockery cup at my doorstep during Christmas celebration.  The driver clicked a photo with me and gift.  He said he has to give the Cab Company proof that the gifts were delivered!!

167. Ramanarayanam Temple, Vizianagaram

This temple should be on your must-watch bucket list!  It was inaugurated in March 2014.  Not many people are aware of this temple.  I spoke to an official there as to why they are not promoting this in a big way.  He said they have a website and all the details are published there.  I believe, since most of the stuff is mentioned in Telugu language, they are not able to attract many visitors.  Although for the Hanuman 3-d laser projection show, held thrice in the evening, there is a crowd.    The temple is located on the outskirts of the Vizianagaram town. The temple is in the shape of a bow.  At the two ends of each bow, there are 2 temples, one for Ram-Lakshman-Sita and one for Vishnu.  Between the temples, shaped in the two bows, there are two galleries depicting Ramayana.  A total of 72 laminated moldings depict the entire Ramayana. 1 WhatsAppa Mantras
